St. James United Methodist Church
When one looks at the needs of a community and builds a support system to meet those needsâthings happen. That’s what St James united Methodist Church has been doing for many years. Located at 5540 Wayne in Kansas City, MO, the church is living their “vision” by connecting people to God in practical ways. This is the foundation for the numerous ministries they administer. St. James UMC has an impressive list of accomplishments.
The following are just a few ways in which the church is making a difference:
Three times each month, St. James feeds over 300 families, provide health screenings to detect problems with blood pressure, and make healthcare referrals when needed.
During Thanksgiving and Christmas St. James distributes groceries to as many as 800 needy families.
Spreading Love and Care Year-round
St. James fills a void with food pantries, clothes closet and baby diapers.
The Loaves and Fishes food pantry located at St. James Paseo Campus has been serving the community for over 25 years. Additional sites include the Serving Hope Pantry at the Renaissance campus in South Kansas City.
The Diaper Ministry supports and fills the gaps for families who can’t afford diapers for their children or Depends (adult diapers) for families caring for a loved one.
A partnership with the United Methodist Women organization supports a clothing ministry named after one of their beloved members, Bettylu. The Bettylu closet provides wardrobes for people needing something to wear to a job interview or to church. They also provide household goods such as dishes and cookware.
Housing and Homeownership Programs
St. James supports the whole person and in doing so prepares and provide up-to-date housing regulation and home ownership programs for families interested in buying a home.
The St. James United Methodist Church is connecting people with God through exciting worship, compassionate outreach, and authentic faith development. The church is made up of clergy and laity who are committed to serving the members of their congregation and the entire community. They share the gospel through teaching, preaching, music, stewardship and ministry. The senior pastor is Emanuel Cleaver, III, D. Min.
